- All applicants must be attending or plan on attending for their first year.
- As proof of your first-year status, you will need to submit a digital copy of your acceptance letter—complete with the college letterhead—from that college.
- This current scholarship will be rewarded for the semester beginning in Fall 2017.
- All applications for the current semester are due by August 1, 2017.
You’ll need to submit a 500+ word essay on the following topic:
How can we, as a society, encourage drivers to prioritize safety when behind the wheel?
Car accidents, truck accidents, and other types of motorized vehicle accidents are all too common on U.S. highways. We all know someone who has been in a serious car crash or have experienced a devastating wreck ourselves. Traffic laws, posted signs, and highway officials do a fair job of encouraging drivers to follow the rules of traffic and keep themselves and others safe, but every day we see drivers breaking laws and taking lives into their own hands. How can we, as a society, better stress the importance of driving safely and ensure we all do our part to avoid accidents?
Once the application period closes, Urban & Taylor will choose a winner based on the feasibility and creativity of each essay as well as the applicant’s level of knowledge in the topic and the student’s ability to create a well-crafted essay. You don’t need to be pursuing an English degree or law degree to write the winning essay. The winning essay will be one that explores the topic in a unique way– one that ideally brings new insight to the topic.
By submitting your essay to us, you agree that your essay may be featured on our blog. We will publish the winning essay as well as 1-2 of the top contenders at our discretion. Published essays may appear with minor edits.
