Urban & Taylor Supports Shorewood Mock Trial Team
At Urban & Taylor, S.C., we’re strong proponents of supporting young lawyers, aspiring law students, and bright students of all ages and backgrounds who take an interest in the legal profession. One of the best ways to showcase early legal talent is by holding mock trials. Mock trial competitions are commonly held for law students who are practicing their skills in litigation, but they’re held at the high school level as well.
The largest mock trial competition for high schoolers is the Mock Trial National Championship. This year, the championship competition will be held in Reno, Nevada. We’re proud to support the Shorewood High School Mock Trial Team in their efforts to compete at the National Championship this May. Shorewood High School is in the neighborhood of our law firm’s office, and the mock trial team recently won the Wisconsin State Championship. They’re now setting their sights for the ultimate goal– Nationals!
The team has set up a GoFundMe page to receive help to get to Reno, Nevada and compete. We were happy to quickly show our support and hope that others do the same to help our local student competitors achieve their goals.
Attorney Jay Urban had this to say regarding the mock trial team and his support:
“When we announced our gift of $1,000 of the $13,000 needed for this public school team to travel to compete at nationals, we received several messages from real judges who judged the competition saying how great this team is, so we have high hopes for the next round.
Also, since it is the second time in the last five years we have funded their national trip, we also need to keep winning ourselves.”
When we do all we can to support our nation’s youth programs and educational opportunities like the mock trial competition and its competitors, we do more than help our kids thrive– we help our future be the brightest it can be. Whether each competitor goes on to become a lawyer, judge, or even a doctor, actor, or a professional in any other industry, we can be assured that these students will be well-prepared to tackle the world with confidence, excellent speaking skills, and excellent analytical skills.
